GA. <br />CABARR1S CO11iATT <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />November 19, 2018 <br />=q�'H CAA��NA <br />6:30 PM <br />AGENDA CATEGORY: <br />New Business <br />SUBJECT: <br />Sheriff's Department - North Carolina Governor's Highway Safety Program Local <br />Governmental Resolution <br />BRIEF SUMMARY: <br />The Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office is receiving a grant through the Governor's Highway <br />Safety Program. Lieutenant Aaron Ranking serves as the coordinator and organizer for <br />BikeSafeNC in our region of North Carolina. A grant in the amount of $5,000 will cover the <br />cost of education event materials, equipment and travel. No local match is required. The <br />Governor's Highway Safety Program (GHSP) supports and oversees the statewide <br />BikeSafeNC program. This is an extension of the original grant from initiated in FY 2018. <br />A BikeSafeNC Regional Law Enforcement Liaison serves as coordinator and organizer for <br />BikeSafeNC activities in his/her respective region. The Governor's Highway Safety <br />Program supports and oversees the statewide BikeSafeNC program. Coordination of this <br />program is accomplished by utilizing six regional BikeSafeNC Regional Law Enforcement <br />Liaison (RLEL) positions. Planning, preparation, and reporting activities for coordination <br />efforts of the liaisons. BikeSafeNC RLELs are responsible for continued efforts to promote <br />and involve law enforcement agencies in these lifesaving endeavors. To this end, Law <br />Enforcement Liaisons are required to host events, attend and conduct meetings, assist other <br />BikeSafeNC agencies with organizing events, respond to public inquiries associated with <br />their region, and report all efforts and activities back to eh GHSP Statewide Coordinator. <br />The requested monies for Travel and Training will be used to attend quarterly regional <br />meetings, in-state and to attend the State Motorcycle Safety Administrators Conference, out- <br />of-state. <br />REQUESTED ACTION: <br />Motion to adopt resolution and attached budget amendment. <br />Page 214 <br />
