December 18, 2017 (Regular Meeting) Page 3381 <br />G-2 County Manager - Replacement of the Jail Dishwasher <br />UPON MOTION by Commissioner Kiger, seconded by Commissioner Shue and <br />unanimously carried, the Board approved the agenda as amended. <br />(C) RECOGNITIONS AND PRESENTATIONS <br />(C-1) Veterans Services - Presentation of Certificates <br />Jay Wood, Veterans Services Director recognized and presented <br />certificates of recognition to the following businesses for donating products <br />and/or tour for auction for the Veterans Services Scholarship Drive: <br />Mr. Bob Doty, owner Bob and Kay's Green Acres Honey <br />Mr. and Mrs. Tom and Deb Filkins, owners Cougar Run Winery <br />Ms. Leanne Powell, CEO and owner Southern Grace Distilleries <br />All those recognized graciously expressed appreciation. <br />Drew Powell, was also in attendance. <br />(C-2) Emergency Medical Services - Recognition at the Carolina's Paramedic <br />Competition <br />Alan Thompson, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Director recognized the <br />Cabarrus County EMS team of Lieutenant Kara Clarke and John Beall who <br />represented Cabarrus County EMS well at the Carolina's Paramedic Competition in <br />Fayetteville, North Carolina on October 13th and 19th. The team performed <br />extremely well in the two-day event pitting the best teams from North and South <br />Carolina in a competition format of complex patient care scenarios. The <br />scenarios required great attention to care, scene management, professionalism, <br />and clinical decision making. Paramedic John Beall took second place honors in <br />the written exam. This level of excellence is what the Cabarrus EMS paramedics <br />strive to bring to the citizens of the County each day. Lieutenant Clarke <br />currently serves as an EMS Relief Supervisor and John Beall currently serves as <br />a Master Paramedic. Mr. Thompson presented Certificates to Lieutenant Kara <br />Clarke and Mr. Beall. <br />Lieutenant Clarke and Mr. Beall accepted the certificates and expressed <br />appreciation. <br />(C-3) Cabarrus County 225° Anniversary Resolution <br />Chairman Morris announced December 29th will mark the 225th year <br />anniversary for Cabarrus County. The North Carolina Assembly formed the county <br />from northeastern Mecklenburg on December 29, 1792. It was named Cabarrus, in <br />honor of the popular Speaker of the House of Representatives, Stephen Cabarrus <br />of Chowan County. <br />Chairman Morris read the resolution aloud. <br />UPON MOTION by Commissioner Shue, seconded by Commissioner Kiger and <br />unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following resolution. <br />Resolution No. 2017-31 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF CABARRUS <br />COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA, MARKING THE 225*- ANNIVERSARY <br />OF THE FOUNDING OF CABARRUS COUNTY AND RECOGNIZING THE <br />ESTABLISHMENT OF THE COUNTY. <br />WHEREAS, during the time population increased in the area following the <br />American Revolutionary War, the northeastern part of Mecklenburg <br />County was taken by the North Carolina legislature for Cabarrus <br />County in 1792. Cabarrus County was formed on December 29, 1792 from <br />Mecklenburg County. It was named in honor of Stephen Cabarrus of <br />Chowan County, Speaker of the North Carolina House of Commons; and <br />WHEREAS, in July 2017, the population of Cabarrus County was 205,973. The <br />County includes the cities of Concord, Kannapolis and Locust as well <br />as the towns of Harrisburg, Midland and Mount Pleasant. The county <br />seat is Concord; and <br />WHEREAS, 2017 marks the 225th anniversary of Cabarrus County, marking decades <br />of remarkable history, extraordinary human endeavor, unique and <br />essential diversity, tireless civic and social activism, heroic <br />
