April 16, 2018 (Regular Meeting) Page 3510 <br />Chris Munoz, resident of 4833 Brockton Court in Concord, expressed <br />concerns regarding the proposed cell tower in the Covington subdivision. <br />Sheryl Gray, resident of 5000 Weddington Road in Concord and Founder and <br />Executive Director of Code Gray Day, a non-profit organization to assist <br />citizens in crisis, particularly homelessness, commented on the work of the <br />organization. She announced the Cabarrus County Homelessness Awareness Resource <br />Fair is scheduled for Saturday, August 251h at 11:00 a.m. at the Concord Library <br />auditorium. In addition, she requested the Board adopt a proclamation in August <br />to bring awareness to homelessness in the community. <br />Michelle Turner, resident of 4450 Kellybrook Drive in Concord and Co - <br />Founder of Combat Female Veterans and Families United (CFVF United), a non- <br />profit that provides transitional services to combat females after returning <br />from at, announced CFVF United will be submitting a Request for Proposal (RFP) <br />to Cardinal Innovations requesting grant funds to support a peer lead veterans <br />group program. In that regard, Ms. Turner requested the Board's consideration <br />of a letter of support. <br />With there being no one else to address the Board, Chairman Morris closed <br />that portion of the meeting. <br />(E) OLD BUSINESS <br />None. <br />(F) CONSENT <br />(F-1) Finance - Cabarrus County Schools Renovation Request for J.N. Fires <br />Middle School <br />Cabarrus County Schools (CCS) is requesting $300,000 to make renovations <br />to J.N. Fries Middle School. Currently, the space at J.N. Fries is 50 <br />percent middle school and 50 percent Performance Learning Center. A new <br />Performance Learning Center is being constructed, and the program will move out <br />of the J.N. Fries location. Cabarrus County Schools would like to renovate the <br />school and convert the entire space back to a middle school. <br />The funds requested are as follows: <br />$30,000 to change office space into classrooms; <br />• $130,000 to increase the capacity of school and to purchase more <br />devices and technology; and <br />• $140,000 to add sports back to the middle school by purchasing <br />uniforms and restoring fields, etc. <br />This project is included on a list of FY19 projects to be considered for <br />Capital Reserve funding. Cabarrus County Schools have requested funding prior <br />to June 30, 2018. If approved by the Cabarrus County Commissioner's, this <br />project would need to rise to the top of the list of projects to be funded with <br />Capital Reserve funding. <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Kiger, seconded by Commissioner Shue and <br />unanimously carried, the Board approved the $300,000 J.N.
