CA.
CABARRUS COUNTY
1"BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
REGULAR MEETING
November 18, 2024
6:30 PM
AGENDA CATEGORY:
Recognitions and Presentations
SUBJECT:
Emergency Management - Mt. Pleasant Elementary School Fire Safety Bulletin Board
Contest
BRIEF SUMMARY:
Each year, the Cabarrus County Fire Marshal's Office invites local elementary schools to
participate in a fire safety bulletin board contest. As part of this initiative, Assistant Fire
Marshal Ashleigh Ennis offers to visit schools and deliver a brief lesson on that year's fire
prevention topic. After the lesson, students are encouraged to create a bulletin board that
reflects the Fire Prevention Week theme.
This year, Mt. Pleasant Elementary School was the only school to take part. Assistant Fire
Marshal Ashleigh Ennis, along with School Resource Officer Jennifer Burnette, visited each
3rd-grade classroom to teach about this year's theme: "Smoke Alarms: Make Them Work for
You!" Following the lesson, art teacher, Amber Barnhardt, guided the students in designing a
bulletin board that showcased what they learned.
To reward participation, the Cabarrus County Fire Marshal's Office partners with ServPro to
host an ice cream party for the winning grade level. Since Mt. Pleasant Elementary was the
sole participant this year, their 3rd-grade students will enjoy an ice cream celebration later this
month.
Representing Mt. Pleasant Elementary are 3rd-grade students: Leroy Aiken, Cullen Belch,
Cora Mae Fast and Hudson Love.
These students will present their bulletin board and share the valuable fire prevention tips
they've learned.
Page 89
