<br /> The Board of Commissioners for the County of Cabarrus met in special session
<br />at the Courthouse in Concord, North Carolina on Thursday, December 27, 1979
<br />at 1:00 P.M.
<br />

<br /> Mr~ George Griffin, architect, reported that it would cost an additional
<br />$4,867 to bring the new ambulance facility into compliance with the handi-
<br />capped code as required by the North Carolina Department of Insurance.
<br />Mr. Griffin also reported on the bids which were received for the construction
<br />of the Cabarrus County Ambulance Station as follows:

<br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Bonds, seconded by Chairman Cook and
<br />unanimously carried, the Board awarded contracts to the low bidders - Butler
<br />& Sidbury, Inc. with a base bid of $155,844.00, Kannapolis Service Company
<br />with a bid of $14,138.00, G & S Metal Company, Inc. with a bid of $12,748.00,
<br />and Winecoff Electric Company with a bid of $16,044 - and appropriated
<br />$19,000.00 from the Commissioners' Contingency Fund to Capital Outlay
<br />Projects - Ambulance Building.
<br /> Mr. W. S. Chandler, Planning Director, reported on the preparation of
<br />the new Zoning Ordinance and outlined the need for the zoning plan to regulate
<br />the future growth of Cabarrus County.
<br /> Mr. Manuel Kiser, member of the Cabarrus County Board of Health, was
<br />present to request that the Board appoint Dr. William Burchfield to the
<br />Board of Health. Dr. Hugh Malone had declined to accept the appointment made
<br />by the Board on December 10, 1979.
<br /> The motion made by Commissioner Lentz and seconded by Chairman Cook to
<br />appoint Dr. Vincent Arey to the Board of Health was defeated with Chairman
<br />Cook and Commissioner Lentz voting for and Commissioners Bonds, Milloway, and
<br />Allen voting against.
<br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Milloway, seconded by Commissioner Bonds with
<br />Commissioners Milloway, Bonds, and ALlen voting for and Chairman Cook and
<br />Commissioner Lentz voting against, the Board appointed William J. Burchfield,
<br />M.D., to the Cabarrus County Board of Health for a three year term ending
<br />December 31, 1982.
