The regular monthly meeting of the Cabarrus County Commissioners was held at <br /> <br />9:.30 A.M. on August 5;, 196U, with the following members present: <br /> Chairman - C. Frank James <br /> <br />Commissioners - C. McNeil Petrea and F. J. Beasley, Jr. <br />Absent -Dr. R. B. Rankin, Jr., and S. Glenn Hawfield, Jr. <br />Chairman James called the meeting to order. Prayer was by the Reverend Clarence <br />Stfford. Minutes were read and approved. <br /> <br /> Mr. A1 Klimas, Health Director, discussed the possibility of the County <br />Joining with the .~ity oi' Concord in operating a centrally located landfill, with <br />the franchised garbage collectors in the County using this landfill to dump trash <br />on a fee basis. A discussion was held concerning the necessity of a landfill in <br />the Northern section of the County. Commissioner Beasley made a suggestion <br />look into the matter of cost and location for a sanitary landfill. Chairman James <br />appointed such a committee composed of CommisstonetsBeasley and Hawfield, A1 <br />Klimas, and J. Lee Pharr, with the initial meeting set up for August 7, 19615 a% <br />2:00 P.M. at the Health Department. <br /> <br /> Attorney Carlyle Rutledge and Mr. Cecil McCombs presented the Board with a <br />petition pertaining to the closing of Crenshaw Street, formerly known as Dallas <br />Avenue, and Marietta Street, which had been officially abandoned by the State <br />Highway Department. Beasley made motion, seconded by Petrea, to approve this <br /> <br />petition. Vote carried. Satd petttlon Is recorded on page _.. and becomes <br /> <br />a part of these minutes. <br /> <br /> A request by Tony Barnhardt to be exempted from poll tax due to his being <br />dtsabled was unanimously approved upon motion by ?etrea, seconded by Beasley. <br /> <br /> Attorney James Co Davis submt'tted to the Board a notice of a publtc hearing <br />to l~e held at the September'Board meeting relative to the 9ranttng of a franchise <br />given by the County for operatln§ Ambulance Service within the County. Upon mottoq <br />by Beasley, seconded by Petrea, the nottce was ordered published In the newspaper <br />for two consecutive weeks prior to the September meeting. Vote carried.
