, The regular monthly meeting of the Cabarrus County Commissioners was held at <br /> <br />'p:30 A.M. on September 3, 1968, with the following members present: <br /> <br /> Chatrman- C. Frank James ~,,,,,~ <br /> Commissioners -F.J. Beasley, Jr., C. McNeil Petrea, <br /> <br /> S. Olenn Hawfield, Jr., and Dr. R.B.Rankin,Jr. <br /> <br />Chairman James called the meeting to order. Prayer was by the Reverend Charles <br /> <br />Coffee. Minutes were read and approved. <br /> <br /> Architect George Griffin presented revised plans for the new courthouse and <br />Jail, and informed the Board that it would not be necessary to demolish the <br />building on South Union Street for several years as the revised plans have the <br />Jail facing Corban Avenue instead of Union Street as proposed. He also informed <br />the Board that the original estimate of cost for the new Jail would be approximate. <br />ly $27.00 per sq.ft, due to the fact that the Jail equipment alone would cost <br />approximately $100,000.00. Upon motion by Rankin, seconded by Hawfield, Mr. Grill n <br />was instructed to proceed with the plans as presented. Vote was unanimous. <br /> <br /> Hawfield made motion, seconded by Rankln, to approve a resolution of the <br /> <br />County of Caharrus, establishing a County Planning Board and to appoint the <br />following persons as members of the County Zoning and Planning Board: Dr. Roy Hag,, <br />Concord, N.C.; Troy Camp, Harrisburg, N.C.; George Barrier, Kannapolts, N.C.; <br />Edward Overcash, Kannapolls, N.C.; and Coy Black, Oold Hill, N.C. Vote carrtedo <br /> <br />Resolution appears on page ~dc~. and becomes a part of these minutes. <br /> <br /> Hawfield made motion, seconded by Rankin, for Chairman James to call an <br />organizational meeting of the Zoning and Planning Board and appoint the members <br />to staggered terms of one, two, and three years. Vote carried. <br /> <br /> Tax Collector C. Oice Allen informed the Board that it would not be possible <br />under the current tax billing setup to carry the tax receipts to Kannapolis for <br />collecting of taxes. Mr. Allen was instructed to publicize the fact that <br />Township #k taxpayers should bring their tax bills with them to the Kannapolis <br />Collection Point during the months of October, November, and December. <br /> <br /> In accordance with legal advertisement placed tn the Concord Tribune during <br /> <br />the Month of August, 1968 in re~ard to a ~.ublic hearing concerning ambulance ser- <br />vice, County Attorney James C. Davis presented the ambulance ordinance to the Boar( <br />There being no public opposition to the hearing, upon motion by Rankin, seconded <br />by Beasley, adoption of the ordiaaoce was unanimously passed.
