The regular monthly meeting of the Cabarrus County Commissioners was held at <br /> <br /> 9:30 A.M. on October 7, 196~ with the following members present: <br /> Chairman - C. Frank James <br /> <br /> Commissioners - C. McNeil Petrea, F. J. Beasley, Jr. ~ <br /> <br /> Dr. R.B. Rankln, Jr., and S. Glenn Hawfteld,Jr <br /> Chairman James called the meeting to order. Prayer was by the Reverend ~. Pressle <br /> Rutledgeo Minutes were read and approved. <br /> <br /> Members of the Concord Chamber of Commerce Airport Committee consisting of <br /> Clyde Propst, Sr., E. Kent Prewitt, Eugene C. Cook, and S.1. Parker reported to <br /> the Board that the Committee had secured one year option on 150 acres of land <br /> located on the Pitt School Road, at the end of Weddington Road. An engineering <br /> study prepared by Talbert, Cox, and Associates, Inc., was presented by the <br /> committee for approval. Hawfteld made motion, seconded by Beasley, to authorize <br /> Chairman James to sign the contract approving pay~nt of $2,000 upon completion <br /> of the engineering work. Vote carried. <br /> <br /> Commissioners also approved an appropriation of $450.00 for a topo survey to <br />be made oi' the airport site. The Board thanked the Committee for their work <br />and requested them to submit a list of ten (10) persons to serve on the airport <br />commission. <br /> <br /> Residents of Richard Avenue, Kannapolts, submitted a petition complaining <br />of the excessive speeding and reckless driving in that area. Commissioners <br />referred thls matter to Sheriff J. B. Roberts and Chief R. L. Ketchle of the <br />Kannapolts Pollce Depar,~meat. <br /> <br /> Mr~ Henry Smith, Chief of Poplar Tent Fire Department, presented a request <br />for the County to pay one-half (½) oi' the cost of a radio for their fire department <br />Commissioners approved payment. <br /> <br /> A discussion oi' a possible agreement with the City oi' Concord for the use by <br />County citizens oi' the Concord's landfill was held by the Board with A1 Kltmas, <br />Health Director. A suggestion was made that commissioners Hawfield and Rankin <br />~eet with City officials and be given power<~to act on behalf of the County in <br /> <br />eadhtng a short term agreement to enable the County to have additional time in <br />~hich to secure a suitable site for a Countywide landfill use. The Board agreed. <br /> <br /> Mr. and Mrs. Luther Hartsell of Route 2, Stanfleld showed the Board two one <br /> <br /> allon Jars of water taken from Rocky River near their home and registered a <br /> <br />:omplaint about the condition of the stream and the mosquito problem in that area. <br /> <br /> <br />
