The Board of Commissioners for the County of Cabarrus met in special session at the <br /> <br />Courthouse in Concord, North Carolina, on Thursday, June 21, 1973, at 9:00 a.m. <br /> <br /> Present: Chairman - S. Glenn Hawfield, Jr. <br /> <br /> Commissioners: Robert A. McClary <br /> Charles Gallimore <br /> C. Frank James <br /> John Hammet t <br /> <br /> George Griffin, architect, presented the bids for the new County Courthouse after <br /> <br />having compared them with the specifications. Griffin stated that he expected the Courthouse <br />to be completed in eighteen (18) months, and he recommended that the Board accept the low <br />bids submitted by the contractors. Motion by Hammett, seconded by James, to accept the <br />low bids and award contracts on the new Courthouse, as recommended by the architect, as <br />follows: <br /> <br /> General Contractor <br /> <br /> Cabarrus Construction Company $1,438,366.00 <br /> Concord, N. C. <br /> <br /> Mechanical Contractor <br /> <br /> George B, Stevens Co. 202,500.00 <br /> Mooresville, N. C. <br /> <br /> Plumbing Contractor <br /> <br /> George B. Stevens Co. 61,000.00 <br /> Mooresville, N. C. <br /> <br /> Electrical Contractor <br /> <br /> Howard Electric Co. of Concord, Inc. 129,000.00 <br /> Concord, N. C. <br /> <br /> Total Bids $1,830,866.00 <br /> <br /> Vote ~arried unanimously. <br /> <br /> Motion by Gallimore, seconded by Hammett, to advertise for demolition of the building <br /> <br />at 90 Church Street, S. E., currently occupied by Sterchi Brothers Furniture Company, <br />Carolina Tire Company and the Cabarrus County Building Inspector, Recreation Director <br />and Planning Department. Vote carried unanimously. <br /> <br /> Motion by McClary, seconded by James, that Chairman Glenn Hawfield, Jr., and John <br /> <br />Hammett serve on sub-committee to work with the architect, George Griffin, during the <br /> <br />construction phase of the new County Courthouse. Vote carried. <br /> <br /> The Tentative Budget was presented to the Board by County Administrator, Richard <br /> <br />Wade, for fiscal year 1973-74 based on a tentative tax rate of $1.23 per $100 of assessed <br />valuation. Motion by McClary, seconded by James to approve the tentative 1973-74 budget. <br />Vote carried unanimously. <br /> <br /> Motion by Gallimore, seconded by McClary, to approvm the following fire and sanitary <br /> <br />districts' tax rates for the fiscal year 1973-74: <br /> <br /> Kannapolis Sanitary District $ .40 <br /> Parkwood Sanitary District and <br /> Winecoff Fire District .20 <br /> Royal Oaks Sanitary District .40 <br /> Rockland Sanitary District and <br /> Jackson Park Fire District .47 <br /> Jackson Park Fire District .05 <br /> <br /> <br />
