99 <br /> <br /> The Board of Commissioners for the County of Cabarrus met in regular <br />session at the County Courthouse in Concord, North Carolina, on Monday, May 1, <br />1989, at 3:00 P.M. <br /> Present Chairman: James W. Lentz <br /> Commissioners: R. Giles Moss <br /> William G. Hamby, Jr. <br /> Martha H. Melvin <br /> Billy J. Simmons, Jr. <br /> The invocation was given by Commissioner Melvin. <br /> Chairman Lentz welcomed the ninth grade students and teachers from the <br />Close Up Cabarrus classes of Northwest Cabarrus, Central Cabarrus, and Mt. <br />Pleasant High Schools. <br /> Mr. Perry St. John, Architect with Dennis Yates Associates, presented an <br />update on the construction of the Governmental Center. He stated that this was <br />day 284 of 563 contract days and estimated the project construction at 50 percent <br />complete. Mr. St. John expressed his appreciation to Ms. Mary Johnson of the <br />United States Post Office on McCachern Boulevard for her cooperation during the <br />construction of the new facility. <br /> Mr. Blair D. Bennett, Finance Director, presented seven Governmental Center <br />construction change orders for consideration by the Board. These change orders <br />related to the additional excavation and soil replacement required for the <br />footings and design changes requested by the County. <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Melvin, seconded by Chairman Lentz with <br />Commissioners Melvin and Simmons and Chairman Lentz voting for and Commissioners <br />Moss and Hamby voting against, the Board approved the following Governmental <br />Center change orders. <br /> <br />Change Order Number CA12-G(3) General Construction - L. P. Cox <br />Company Replace 228.9 cubic yards of unsuitable soil material <br />beneath footings with 2,000 psi concrete at $80/cubic yard for a <br />total of eighteen thousand three hundred twelve dollars and no cents <br />($18,312). <br /> <br />Change Order CA12-G(4) General Construction - L. P. Cox Company ~ <br />Replace 405.2 cubic yards of unsuitable soil material beneath <br />footings with 2,000 psi concrete at $80/cubic yards for a total of <br />thirty-two thousand four hundred sixteen dollars and no cents <br />($32,416). <br /> <br />Change Order Number CA12-M(2) Mechanical Work Lorch Plumbing & <br />Heating Co, Inc. Perform work required for the Owner's requested <br />revisions dated March 16, 1989, as referenced in RFP16-M(2) and as <br />indicated in Mechanical Contractor's letter dated April 25, 1989 <br />$9,078.00. <br /> <br />Change Order Number CA12-P(2) Plumbing Work - Mecklenburg Plumbing <br />Company - Perform work required for the Owner's requested revisions <br />dated March 16, 1989, as referenced in RFP16-P(2) and as indicated <br />in Plumbing Contractor's letter dated April 10, 1989 - $2,523.00. <br /> <br />Change Order Number CA12oE(4) - Electrical Work - Walter Carter, <br />Inc. - Perform work required for the Owner's requested revisions <br />dated March 16, 1989, as referenced in RFP-E(3) and as indicated in <br />the Electrical Contractor's letters dated March 31, 1989, and April <br />13, 1989 - $12,883.00. <br /> <br />Change Order Number CA12-G(7) - General Construction L. P. Cox <br />Company, Inc. - Credit two thousand one hundred eight dollars <br />($2,108) for revising the retaining wall at the McCachern Street <br />entry as shown on the Architect's Supplementary Drawing Al01, dated <br />11/02/88. Total Credit: $2,108.00. <br /> <br />Change Order Number CA12-G(8) - General Construction L. P. Cox <br />Company, Inc. - Work authorized by Blair Bennett required to explore <br />foundation conditions at Barrier property: One hundred five dollars <br />and no cents ($105.00). <br /> <br /> Mr. Steve Little, Recreation Director, briefly reviewed the proposed <br />Recreation Department Arts Council Grant Applications. He noted that the local <br />match for each grant will be provided by program revenues. <br /> <br /> <br />
