Chairman Coltrane called the meeting to order. <br />2. A correction in the August minutes will be made-the Cabarrus County Fair will <br />be September 14-19-1970. The August minutes read September 8-13, 1970. <br />3. Chairman's Report: <br />a. Chairman Coltrane welcomed the visitors to the meeting and introduced <br />Mr. W. A. McLeod, Area Conservationist for this area now. He also <br />welcomed Mr. John Layden, W/S Co-ordinator who was present to provide <br />information on Watershed problems. <br />Chairman Coltrane called on Mr. Cato to show a slide series made up <br />by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The series was on "CONSERVATION <br />VS POLLUTION". <br />An article was read by the Chairman commending Mr. Roy L. Townsend <br />on the excellent work he is doing at Rocky Meadows Ranch. Mr. <br />Coltrane then presented Mr. Townsend the award as FARMER OF THE YEAR <br />for 1970. <br />The Chairman called on Mrs. Hugh Price, Conservation Chairman of the <br />Concord Womenst Club. Mrs. Price asked for the support of the District <br />Supervisors in sponsoring a Photo Contest on Conservation. Mrs. Price <br />asked for two judges to serve with Mr. Gene Furr of the Concord Tribune. <br />Appointed by Chairman Coltrane were Mr. W. H. Cato and Mr. C. William <br />Cook who will represent the Cabarrus Soil and Water Co nservation <br />District. Mrs. Price explained that the contest is to be limited to <br />4-H members, girl scouts and boy scouts. All photographs are to be <br />submitted to Mrs. Price by October 31, 1970.
