5. Committee Reports: <br />FINANCE: (Rozear) <br />a. A motion was made, seconded and passed authorizing the Treasurer <br />to issue checks to: Kale - Lawing- $17.60; speech contest prize <br />money - $60.00; judges gifts - $40.00; Wildlife membership fee - <br />$35.00; NACD (4 plaques)- $147.52. <br />b. After discussion, a motion was made, seconded and passed that <br />the supervisors purchase six (6) "Leaving" and "Entering" <br />roadside signs. The signs are to be displayed at appropriate <br />points in the county with permission obtained from persons <br />and /or landowners who agree to the installation. <br />The District supervisors expressed their appreciation to <br />John Hammill, Jr. for donating a number of treated posts <br />needed to mount the signs. <br />EDUCATION: (Herrin) <br />a. Plaques for awards presentations have been received in the <br />District office. <br />b. Judges have been selected for the speech contest on December <br />9th. Mrs. Ann Schuhart, former SCS employee; Mr. L. D. <br />Coltrane, III, banker and Mr. Don Spangler -DC with SCS. <br />c. Mr. Harold Nash distributed copies of a newspaper article <br />from Guilford County. Mr. Nash commented that the general <br />public have little knowledge of the role and importance <br />Soil and Water Districts have in a county. Public relations <br />and information about the working of a District does not <br />reach enough people. Mr. Nash also commented that with <br />changes and trends in developing, the Soil and Water Districts <br />have the opportunity and legal duty to be active in all soil <br />and water problems, changes in the county and environmental <br />issues; urban as well as farmland. (copy of article attached). <br />LAND -USE: (Moose) No report <br />WATERSHED: (Barrier - Overcash) <br />Mr. Harold Nash and Mr. Kenneth Payne, County Commissioners, <br />are liaisons with the Soil and Water District on the Coddle - <br />Coldwater -Dutch Buffalo Creeks watershed project. <br />Attached is a copy of a letter from Coy A. Garrett, State <br />Conservationist, on the status of the watershed project. <br />6. (Attached) Report of District Conservationist, Hugh D. Price. <br />7. NEXT MEETING: S P E E C H C O N T E S T <br />7:00 P.M. Thursday, December 9, 1982 <br />Learning Center, Agriculture Building <br />FAMILIES, WIVES AND FRIENDS ARE INVITED TO ATTEND. <br />8.
