.Planning and Zoning Commission Minutes
Janua~

Pa~e 3

concrete plant could use some of that property for
concrete reclamation.

Mr. Shultz asked Mr. McGee to explain what he meant by
reclamation.

Mr. McGee stated-if YOU order 10 yards of concrete but
you only need 8 yards and he comes back with 2 yards of
concrete he has to do something with it, so he runs the
concrete through a reclaimer to reclaim the sand and
stones'so they can reuse it instead of wasting it.

Mr. Amos asked Mr. Marshall if in the Midland plan there
was not some mention of having an area along the railroad
for a bikepath? Is the Norfolk Southern Railroad just a
right-of-way, or is there a track through there?

Mr. Marshall stated there is a track there. Part of the
recommendations of that plan were to work on a rail
buffer, some type of easement that would foll.ow along a
rail with an extra setback to allow for parallel rail
lines and possibly paths.

Mr. Amos asked if the proposed rezoning would help or
hinder the plan for a greenway corridor.

Mr. Marshall said the rezoning would help since it would
provide additional access to the remote section zoned I-
2.

There being no further comments, Chairperson Randall closed the
public hearing on Petition 92-01.

Mr. Olio-Mills stated it is great what Mr. Wallace is
doing in that area, and with Mr. McGee's unpeachable
track record, he would like to make a MOTION to approve
Petition 92--01, seconded by Mr. Shultz. The vote was
unanimous.

Mr. Shultz asked Mr. Marshall with respect to a
reclamation type activity on that site in the future,
would there be some type permitting process required?

Mr. Marshall stated he would have to check into what the
exact particulars are but he assumes that that would be
something that would be regulated through the Department
of Environment, Health, and Natural Resources in
Mooresville, but he could check on the specifics of that.
