Planning and Zoning Commission Minutes
March 19, 1992
,,

Page 2 2

appropriate to delay it unduly (as would occur if it were to be
done as part of the overall zoning update).

Chairperson Randall asked Mr. Newton who will interpret which of
the four real estate signs are permitted at an intersection?

Mr. Newton stated that will be handled by the zoning administrator.
Just as he is now forced to face the issue as to whether 3, 4, or
5 signs are permitted, and which 3, 4, or 5 will it be.

Mr. Newton stated there is no doubt in terms of, if we have to
enforce these signs continually with the real estate companies, we
are going to have headaches. But he trusts the realtors and the
realtors association to work with the department on this. We have
presented this to the zoning update committee before hand, and one
of the members of the committee was Bob Smith who also brought the
issue up last month. He asked Mr. Smith to tell the board what the
committee felt about it.

Mr. Smith stated, not speaking for everyone, because the committee
did not really bring it ~up to discuss in general. But he does not
think that anyone had a problem with it. He thinks in most cases
people have some of the same concerns he had last time. Mr. Smith
said he does have a question, in item 2, if they have to get a
permit, should that permit be registered with us.

Mr. Downs said they might want to add an extra line in number 2
stating that we have a copy in our office.

Mr. Amos asked if there is any great emergency of acting on this
tonight because we have only had a couple minutes to see this. He
would feel more comfortable if he had between now and the next
meeting to further review this. And if there were any issues the
board could propose, maybe some additional wording to address these
concerns .so that we do not act in haste.

Mr. Newton stated he feels there is a sense of urgency to this
document. We have an unfair ordinance in place now. We have sent
letters out to realtors asking them to comply with'the ordinance as
it has been written for the past series of years but held in
abeyance until this board acted as the board of adjustment last
month. To act tonight will be a recommendation which would not be
received by the Board of Commissioners for another 3 or 4 weeks.
It is a relatively simple text amendment of enforceabilities.
Compared to what we have now, it is much clearer. He said he would
urge the board members to recommend its approval to the County
Commissioners.
