Chairman Coltrane also expressed his thanks to the seventh <br />grade teachers for their efforts in making the program a great <br />success. Chairman Coltrane commended all six contestants on <br />excellent speeches. A program of Special music was presented <br />by the Harrisburg Jr. High School Chorus: Misses Susan Kiser,, <br />Sylvia Guffey, Debbie Carter and Jeanne Howie. The music was <br />presented under the direction of Miss Agnes Yelton. <br />The decision of the judges were given to Dr. Brown McAllister. <br />Dr. McAllister expressed his delight in the work and time the <br />students and teachers had spent in preparations of the Speech <br />Contest. The teachers for the three winning schools awarded <br />the prize money to the winning contestants: <br />Ist place- CATHY TOWNSHFIND <br />2nd place-PAMELA POP, <br />3rd place ICONNIS MASON <br />HARRISBURG SCHOOL $25.00 <br />ODELL SCHOOL $15.00 <br />WINW-OFF SCHOOL $10.00 <br />The entire program was well organized in preparation and <br />presentation. <br />I <br />b. A motion was made and unanimously passed that 5000 inserts for <br />SOIL STJ�WARDSHIP WEEK (May 3-10, 1970) be ordered. Mr. Price <br />is to contact Dr. R. Brown McAllister and discuss using the <br />inserts in the schools. They are to be used also for the Boy <br />Scout troops in Cabarrus County. A new publication from the <br />Soil Conservation Society "Working Together For A Livable Land", <br />is to be given to Dr. R. Brown McAllister for consideration to <br />use in the schools. <br />C. 100 publications have been ordered through the Area Office, <br />entitled, ':Let's Grow! ----- The publication is to be <br />distributed to our Supervisors, Watershed Commissioners and <br />selected groups. <br />Finance: A report was made that the budget for the next fiscal year <br />is being considered, and will be ready to present to the <br />County Commissioners when due. <br />Publicity: THE DAILY INDEPENDENT- Sunday, March 1, 1970, published an <br />article of Mr. Earl M. Skeen from Cabarrus County, winning <br />the Central Region Wildlife Award. <br />THE CONCORD TRIBUNE- Monday, March 2, 1970, published the <br />article of Mr. Earl M. Skeen. <br />Watershed: <br />a. On February 27, 1970, a Status Report of the Coddle-Coldwater- <br />Dutch Buffalo Creeks was mailed to several individuals giving <br />information on each structure site in this area. <br />b. On March 5, 1970, Mr. Dwayne Ruth, U. S. Forest Service of <br />Atlanta and Mr. Lyle Hicks, N. C. Forest Service of Raleigh <br />met with Mr. Coltrane, Mr. Price, Mr. Neil Craig, Chairman of <br />Concord Planning and Zoning Committee and Real Estate Agents <br />to discuss the need and potential use for an urban Forester <br />within the Coddle-Coldwater-Dutch Buffalo Creeks Watershed. <br />
