MINUTES <br />-3- April 1, 1997 <br />9.6 Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) sign -up # 15 Began Monday March 03, 1997 <br />and ended Friday March 28, 1997. The Concord Field office received and <br />processed 32 applications. There were 27 applications for Cabarrus County. The <br />F.O. hopes to know by late May or early June on who was accepted into the <br />program. <br />9.7 NC is hoping to receive 3.9 million for EQIP. Authorization or EQIP has not <br />been made at this time. <br />9.8 The Watershed Science institute is conducting a Watershed Health Study. They are presently <br />looking at the watersheds in Cabarrus, Stanly, and Union Counties. Representatives from <br />each of the NRCS Institutes will be here April 07 -09 to discuss the proposed study area. Dr. <br />Betty McQuaid and Albert "Hank" Henry from the Watershed Science's Institute will be <br />conducting the study. <br />9.9 USDA NRCS Watershed Sciences institute is also looking for summer help to assist with <br />gathering data. A background in Biology and /or Soil Sciences is desirable. <br />9.10 Cabarrus Food and Agriculture Council (FAC) will be meeting on Monday April 21, 1997 at <br />2:00 PM. Any items that need to be presented to the committee, please make me aware of <br />those needs or concerns by April 11. <br />9.11 The Concord Field Office hosted (March 03 and 04) a training session on Stream and <br />Riparian Corridor Management for personnel in adjoining SWCD's. Approximately 20 <br />people attended including representatives from NCWRC, NCFS, and US Army Corps of <br />Engineers. <br />9.12 The Lower Yadkin Basin NPS Team met on March 13. The next scheduled meeting is <br />Thursday May 15, 9:00 am to 12:00 PM at the Stanly Agri -Civic Center. <br />9.13 The USDA Service Center for Cabarrus County has submitted a plan for the USDA <br />LAN/WAN/Voice project. This is an integrated communication system to link the public <br />with the USDA service center by dialing only one telephone number. <br />FRANK A HERRIN, CHAIRMAN <br />Next meeting: 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 7. 1997 at the Agriculture Center. <br />
