MOTION THAT BOARD APPROVE REQUEST FOR PAYMENT. <br />M /HUDSON, S /STUDDERT, MOTION CARRIED <br />5.3 FUNDS <br />PY00: County received BMP allocation of $61,076 of the requested $68,500. <br />Also, received $19,775 in Technical Assistance of the requested <br />$20,561.50. Ralston James explained that due to lack of funding, <br />operating expenses were cut from the Technical Assistance budget. <br />6. Watershed Improvement Commission Report — Dennis Testerman <br />6.1. Clarke Creek Steering Committee met in Huntersville on July 26. Items <br />discussed included progress on sewer line construction on Clarke Creek, land <br />use planning (including greenways), current construction projects, land <br />protection, and water quality. <br />6.2. Dennis will be attending a stream restoration and protection workshop in <br />Asheville on August 18 -20. <br />6.3. The August 10 meeting will be hosted by the Water and Sewer Authority of <br />Cabarrus County at the Rocky River Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant. <br />This plant recently received an award from the national Environmental <br />Protection Agency Region 4 office. <br />7. Natural Heritage Advisory Committee Report — Dennis Testerman <br />7.1. Londa Strong from the county parks and recreation department presented the <br />latest concept design for the proposed park on Orphanage Road at the last <br />committee meeting. <br />7.2. The Carolinas Land Conservation Network board met at Gardner -Webb <br />University and the Broad River Greenway in Cleveland County on July 28. A <br />presentation was given on the North Carolina Rural Heritage Forum. <br />8. OLD BUSINESS <br />8.1. Suther Prairie — Bill Woody (Soil Scientist), Matt Flint (Wildlife Biologist), <br />along with staff Matt Kinane, Ken Couch, and Dennis Testerman visited prairie <br />to conduct soil analysis on July 29, 1999. Roger Hansard and Plant Materials <br />Specialist will be visiting the prairie on Thursday, August 5, 1999 at 1:OOp.m.. <br />8.2. Myra Morrison read a note from Helen J. Barnes expressing thanks and <br />appreciation for the "retirement" reception and gifts that she was given. Ms <br />Barnes resigned from her position as administrative assistant on July 15, 1999. <br />The board expressed deep appreciation for the dedication and hard work that <br />Helen has given for the past seven years for the district. <br />9.
