MINUTES <br />TUESDAY, DECEMBER 07, 1999 <br />Page 2 of 5 <br />3.3 Conservation Reserve Program <br />General Sign -Up #20 for the Conservation Reserve (CRP) will begin January 14, <br />2000 and close February 11, 2000. <br />3.4 Workload Analysis Update <br />A copy of the submitted Concord Field Office workload analysis for FY2001 was <br />made available for review. <br />3.5 NRCS Information <br />New Personnel: <br />Michael Sugg has been selected as the Assistant State Conservationist for <br />Field Operations for the Salisbury area. He will be reporting for duty <br />January 02, 2000. Mike is currently a Resource Conservationist for the <br />Goldsboro area. <br />William Harrell has been selected as the Assistant State Conservationist for <br />Field Operations for the Goldsboro area. He commenced duty November 21, <br />1999. Bill is currently a Resource Conservationist for the Goldsboro area. <br />Lane Price has been selected as the Assistant State Conservationist for <br />Programs and will be located in the Raleigh State office. Lane has NRCS <br />work experience in North Carolina and is currently a Division Director in <br />National Headquarters for the strategy planning staff. He will be reporting <br />for work near the end of January. <br />4. Education & Technology Report - Dennis Testerman <br />a) A presentation was made in October at a Boy Scouts Scoutmaster <br />roundtable meeting. Information on potential projects was distributed. <br />Some calls for assistance have been received from Boys & Girls Scout <br />troops this Fall. <br />b) District Staff facilitated a 6 -hour Project WET conservation education <br />workshop on November 11, 1999. Eleven educators from A.L. Brown <br />High School, Mecklenburg Soil & Water Conservation District, School for <br />Environmental Studies and Stonewall Jackson School participated. <br />C) Northwest Cabarrus High School will join Central Cabarrus High School <br />in sponsoring an Envirothon team this year. A team of two biology <br />teachers and two vocational agriculture teachers ;vill advise this team. <br />Plans are also being made for teams from Concord, J.N. Fries and <br />Concord Middle Schools to participate. <br />d) The Public Speaking & Essay Contest held on Monday, December 06, <br />1999, had a total of 10 participants. Louis Suther thanked Dennis <br />Testerman for his contribution and hours of preparation for this event. <br />e) The Tommy Porter family is featured in a videocassette produced by Ag <br />First Farm Credit Bank. The videocassette is entitled "American <br />Farmers... Producing Our Food, Protecting our Environment ". <br />
