(5 -A) Approval of Cost -Share Program Contracts <br />UPON MOTION of Bob Ritchie, seconded by Jeff Goforth and <br />unanimously carried, the Board approved the livestock exclusion, well <br />and tank contract for Richard Simpson. <br />UPON MOTION of Bob Ritchie, seconded by Tommy Porter and <br />unanimously carried, the Board approved the following Community Cost <br />Share Assistance Program applications and contracts: a cistern at the <br />Cabarrus County Arena and Events Center; pet receptacles at two City <br />of Concord parks; and at nine Cabarrus County parks. <br />There was a general discussion following the motion regarding the <br />issue of pet receptacles being low on the priority ranking sheet. <br />There was also a discussion about which cost -share allocations <br />provided funding for the contracts. <br />(6) Information /Reports <br />N. <br />of Soil & Water Conservation District <br />Soil & W Conserva Con <br />Ned Hudson said the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program <br />(CREP) is now official. A press release was held during Conservation <br />Awareness Day last week. Cabarrus Soil & Water Conservation <br />District's Farm Family, Hill Farms, was one of four such farms in Area <br />VIII this year. The Area VIII 2008 Conservation Farm Family is from <br />Davidson SWCD. Mr. Hudson said he spoke with Jay White, Cabarrus <br />County Board of Commissioners Chairman, regarding the liaison assigned <br />to the District. <br />(6 -B) NCASWCD Community Conservation Committee <br />Bob Ritchie spoke with Krisina Fischer and Michelle Lovejoy at <br />the Conservation Awareness Day in Raleigh. He said they are proposing <br />a standing Community Conservation committee meeting in mid -July. <br />(6 -C) NCASWCD Legislative Committee <br />Louis Suther said he and Ned Hudson attended a meeting of the <br />State Grange in Raleigh today. Mr. Suther said that money has been <br />provided to purchase 25 more no -till seed drills throughout North <br />Carolina. Also, the 2008 federal Farm Bill passed. Mr. Suther stated <br />the Conservation Awareness Day went well in Raleigh and our <br />legislators are in full support of what District's ask for. <br />There was a general discussion among the Board and staff <br />regarding legislative issues. <br />Mr. Hudson added that $4 million has been included in the <br />Governor's proposed 2009 budget for the Farmland Preservation Trust <br />Fund.
