Ms. Uzzell is retiring <br />on June 30 after a 30-year career in social services, having worked with the <br />Cabarrus County Department of Social Services since 1986 as Program Administrator <br />for Income Maintenance and Child Support Services. Mr. Norris retired on May 27, <br />1993, after working with the Custodial Division of General Services for seven <br />years. Chairman Carpenter presented a plaque to each of them as an "award of <br />gratitude" from Cabarrus County. <br /> <br />Presentation of Certificate of Commendation and Plaque from Metropolitan Dade <br />County, Florida, for Efforts by the Citizens of Cabarrus County and the Parks and <br />Recreation Department <br /> <br /> Vice-Chairman Payne presented a Certificate of Commendation and a plaque <br />from the Metropolitan Dade County, Florida, government to Mr. Steve Little, Parks <br />and Recreation Director, for the provision of food, water, clothing and Christmas <br />toys and gifts to assist the Dade County citizens in their recovery efforts from <br />Hurricane Andrew. <br /> <br /> Mr. Little expressed appreciation to the citizens of Cabarrus County for <br />their assistance in the campaign to provide Christmas gifts to the Dade County <br />residents. He paid special recognition to the assistance provided by Fieldcrest <br />Cannon, those agencies that served as drop sites for the toys, and the <br />individuals who donated toys to the campaign. <br /> <br />Preliminary Presentation of the Secondary Roads Program for 1993-1994 for <br />Cabarrus County <br /> <br /> Mr. Benton Payne, Division Maintenance Engineer with the North Carolina <br />Department of Transportation, presented the preliminary Secondary Roads Program <br />for 1993-94. He reviewed the funding allocation and the priority rating system <br />for the unpaved rural and residential/subdivision roads in Cabarrus County. The <br />1993-94 funds total $623,838.00 with $438,000.00 available for projects, <br />including the following: (1) Paving of Litaker Road, Sleepy Hollow Road, Biggers <br />Road, Old Speedway Drive, Phelps Road, Tradewind Lane, Robinwood Drive, Homestead <br />Drive; (2) Placement of guardrails on SR 2685 and SR 2698; and (3) Installation <br />of flasher at intersection of NC 49 and Walker Road. <br /> <br /> Stating that she had received complaints regarding the poor condition of <br />Jim Sossamon Road, Commissioner Casper questioned the resurfacing status of that <br />road. Mr. Joe Wilson, County Maintenance Engineer, indicated that the road may <br />be on the resurfacing program list for this year. However, Mr. Payne stated he <br />would check on the condition of the road and notify Commissioner Casper of its <br />status for resurfacing. <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Chairman Carpenter, seconded by Commissioner Payne with <br />Chairman Carpenter and Commissioners Payne and Casper voting for, the Board set <br />a public hearing at 6:30 P.M. on Monday, June 21, 1993, for the final <br />presentation of the Secondary Roads Program for 1993-94. <br /> <br />Food Service Bid Award for the Nutrition Program for the Elderly <br /> <br /> Ms. Eleanor Koski, Director of the Department of Aging, reported that only <br />one bid had been received for the congregate nutrition program food service <br />contract on April 30, 1993. Servicemaster Education Food Management had <br />submitted a bid in the amount of $2.202 per meal but had reduced the price to <br />$2.108 per meal with the following changes: a silverware kit without salt, <br /> <br /> <br />
