<br /> <br />December 20, 2004 (Regular Meeting) <br /> <br />Page <br /> <br />40 <br /> <br />The Gender-proportionate Appointment Reporting for the Period of July 1, <br />2003 _ June 30, 2004 as required by North Carolina General Statute 143-157 <br />was included as part of the Agenda. <br /> <br />(J) GENERAL COMMENTS BY BOARD MEMBERS <br /> <br />Board memberS extended ~Happy Holiday" wishes to the citizens of Cabarrus <br />County. <br /> <br />Commissioner Privette stated his reasons for not voting for the <br />appointment of Fletcher Hartsell as County Attorney. He commented on the <br />lack of legal representation at a State Personnel Commission hearing in 2003, <br />a settlement of $130,000.00 paid by the County and a request for the law firm <br />to reimburse the County for that settlement. <br /> <br />Mr. Hartsell briefly respbnded to Commissioner Privette's remarks. He <br />commented on circumstances associated with a two:'-day hearing and explained. <br />the "but for a situation" issue. with regard to missing a meeting, Mr. <br />Hartsell stated that from that point to this day the County has not paid for <br />any assistance associated with concluding that matter. Further, he added that <br />the matter was concluded by a vote of the Board. <br /> <br />Chairman Carpenter acknowledged and expressed appreciation to County <br />employees in attendance ahd to all employees who were recognized for <br />longevity at the Employee Recognition Ceremony earlier in the day. <br /> <br />(K) .
