M mod <br /> 40 <br /> rtalMlrw��ttif �+qr _ '�Yi�i�+W ,.v,.. <br /> Cabarrus County opened Phase I of Rob Wallace Park in <br /> Midland in January 2017.The 143-acre park is a gift of <br /> its natural habitat.A PARTF grant totaling$350,000 was ;r <br /> essential to the estimated$6.7 million investment that turned <br /> the land into a modern and green space where residents can <br /> enjoy the outdoors. <br /> A substantial partition of the Phase I cost went toward acquisi- <br /> tion of the uniquely suited land,with the remainder devoted to <br /> project planning,site work and amenities. <br /> Because of the grant,families who previously had to travel 20 to enjoy a boardwalk,fishing pond,playground and picnic <br /> miles or further for safe play spaces now have the opportunity <br /> areas.The grant laid the path for the County's first mountain <br /> bike trails,where each turn features a different thrill.The grant <br /> also supported important infrastructure including an entry road, <br /> parking lot and restroom/storage/concession building.Visitors <br /> also benefit from a park office—a home base where staff and <br /> community members interact and build relationships. <br /> Future phases include nature classrooms,and additional play <br /> areas,piers and trails that use the natural resources in the area. <br /> Fallen trees will become wildlife habitats,tree stumps will <br /> transform to stepping blocks and vines will send visitors from <br /> platform to platform—a concept that reuses natural elements <br /> and keeps this treasured part of Cabarrus green.An aerial <br /> 2 adventure park is also under consideration fMr9DQ 8umber 1 \n <br /> 1-1 Page 218 <br />
