7792. <br />r <br />t J <br />RESOLUTION AFFIRMING THE NAME OF THE CODDLE CREEK RESERVOIR <br />WHEREAS Cabarrus County completed the Coddle Creek Reservoir project in the <br />northwestern area of the County to help meet the future potable water needs of the County; and <br />WHEREAS historically the creek which was impounded to form the lake and that flows <br />into and from the lake has been named Coddle Creek; and <br />WHEREAS the lake was referred to as Coddle Creek Reservoir during the planning, design, <br />permitting and completion of the project; and <br />WHEREAS in October 2000 the Board of Commissioners approved a motion naming the <br />reservoir in honor of Don T. Howell; and <br />WHEREAS many citizens continue to refer to the lake as the Coddle Creek Reservoir which <br />has created some confusion about the official name; and <br />WHEREAS Cabarrus County solicited input on the name of the lake through a public <br />meeting and on -line survey; and <br />WHEREAS the overwhelming majority of those who responded to questions about the <br />name of the lake indicated that the official name should be affirmed as Coddle Creek Reservoir; <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners that <br />it does hereby declare that the official name of the reservoir is Coddle Creek Reservoir; and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that County signage at the lake shall be erected and /or <br />replaced to display the name Coddle Creek Reservoir and that all official references to that body <br />of water shall use the name Coddle Creek Reservoir. <br />Adopted this the 21s' day of March, 2016. <br />Stephen M.
