EN -ROUTE PROCEDURES <br />** *List system specific guidance... <br />• Depart on time and stay on schedule, but never at the expense of passenger safety. <br />• Drive safely and smoothly. Operate at all times on compliance with applicable traffic <br />regulations, ordinances, and laws of the jurisdiction in which the vehicle is being operated. <br />• Avoid lengthy conversations with passengers, since conversations can distract a driver from <br />safely operating the vehicle. <br />• A vehicle with passenger doors in the open position should not be operated with passengers <br />aboard. The doors should not be opened until the vehicle is stopped or at a railroad crossing. A <br />vehicle with inoperable doors should not be operated with passengers aboard. <br />• During darkness, interior lighting and lighting of step -wells on vehicles should be sufficient for <br />passengers to enter and exit safely. <br />• Passengers should not be permitted in the step -wells of the vehicle nor occupy an area forward <br />of the standee line when the vehicle is in motion. <br />• Standee passengers should not be permitted on vehicles that are not designed to accommodate <br />standing passengers. <br />• Fueling the vehicle when passengers are being transported should be avoided unless it is <br />necessary. <br />• When passengers are aboard, the transit system requires the driver to be secured to the driver's <br />seat with a restraining belt at all times while the vehicle is in motion. <br />• Vehicles should not be left unattended at any time when passengers are aboard. <br />• When transporting passengers, drivers should stop at all railroad crossings in compliance with <br />North Carolina Statues. <br />04/25/16 PDFConvert. 1073 2. 1.
