1792 PROCLAMATION <br />CRIME STOPPERS MONTH <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County Crime Stoppers is a non - profit <br />' ;• organization funded primarily by private donations; and <br />WHEREAS, members of the community, media and law enforcement came <br />together in partnership to begin the effort of providing crime - solving assistance to law <br />enforcement 40 years ago, and the first Crime Stoppers program was born on September <br />8, 1976 in Albuquerque, New Mexico after the armed robbery of a Phillips 66 gas station; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to the arrest <br />of criminals and the recovery of stolen property and illegal drugs while providing <br />confidentiality and maintaining the caller's anonymity; and <br />WHEREAS, Crime Stoppers has proven that citizen involvement is a powerful <br />weapon in combating and solving crime and can be used effectively to enhance the <br />efforts of local law enforcement; and <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County Crime Stoppers started in 2003, and since then, has <br />received 174 tips leading to arrests and has paid out $10,560 in rewards; and <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County Crime Stoppers benefits citizens and businesses <br />throughout Cabarrus County and its municipalities through partnerships with citizens and <br />local law enforcement agencies. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners do hereby proclaim the month of September 2016 as <br />CRIME STOPPERS MONTH <br />in Cabarrus County and urge citizens to be vigilant and share information <br />regarding crimes with Crime Stoppers and local law enforcement to help keep our <br />communities safe. <br />Adopted this the 19 day of September, 2016. <br />Stephen M.
