Cabarrus County Transportation Service Proposal <br /> Summary <br /> Cabarrus County Transportation has seen a dramatic increase in trip requests as well as a <br /> decrease in grant funding.This has had an impact on the County General fund and our ability to provide <br /> efficient services to our clients and the tax payer. <br /> Background <br /> Cabarrus County has seen an increase in demand for Elderly and Handicapped transportation <br /> this past year with a 263% increase.This demand is$130,713 more than is allotted in the Rural <br /> Operating Assistance grant through the State of North Carolina. Because of this increase, the County is <br /> funding the difference to cover the cost of these trips. Medical trips make up 52%of the Elderly and <br /> Handicapped trips and 48%are for general trips such as work, school, and shopping.This increase in <br /> trips has resulted in an increase in taxi costs to avoid service failures.There is also a short fall in funding <br /> for other trips such as Aging where funding falls$148,082 short of covering all the costs for demand of <br /> these trips.
