BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
REGULAR MEETING
JUNE 16, 2014
6:30 P.M.
AGENDA CATEGORY:
Recognitions and Presentations
SUBJECT:
County Manager — Recognition of the Carolina TarWheels Program for
their National Championship Victory
BRIEF SUMMARY:
The Carolina TarWheels began in 2008, after years of Donnie Langford
playing for another team in Charlotte he realized a need for a program
in Cabarrus County. Starting with basketball, the program has grown
over the years to include softball, golf and hand cycling.
Based in Cabarrus County, the Carolina TarWheels travel across the
United States, competing in adaptive sports. With over 185 adaptive
sports programs across the country, there is always new competition.
Aside from operating a sports program, Carolina TarWheels offers a
support system for disabled athletes, by bringing people together and
developing friendships with others who are going through similar,
tragic life changing events. Carolina TarWheels takes pride in running
year -round programs for physically disabled individuals completely
through the efforts of volunteers.
C -5 Page 30
