N LOCALLY GaOwN <br />COOPERATIVE <br />EXTENSION <br />�1 er /J <br />UNC cxAxr OnT <br />College of Arts + Afchitecture <br />Sth-1 ofA hll ... <br />Lomax Agricultural Learning Center <br />Program Development Plan <br />201 4 - 201 7 <br />The Farm Manager will manage and monitor farming operations at the Lomax <br />Agricultural Learning Center including production and non - production areas and will <br />be responsible for the physical assets of the facility. This individual will, when necessary <br />operate trucks, tractors, greenhouses, irrigation systems and other farm tools and <br />equipment in performance of tasks. <br />The Farm Manager will be in charge of seasonal interns and work with them to create <br />duty rosters, signup sheets, schedules, mechanical diagrams, and technical reports, soil <br />testing, standard operating procedures and other organizational aspects of the farm. <br />The Farm Manager will work with Cooperative Extension, RCCC and UNCC to ensure <br />that the facility meets their needs and the needs of their students. This individual will <br />also attend meetings as required or assigned. The Farm Manager is a full time position <br />and will report to the Program Director. <br />Key Activities <br />• Maintain all equipment, land, and buildings <br />• Small repairs all power equipment (tractors, etc.) <br />• Winterize equipment and irrigation <br />• Mow /weed trim all grasses (except for cultivated field edges. That is the farmers' <br />responsibility) <br />• Maintain forest edges (mow back brush, remove fallen trees, etc.) <br />• Supervise interns who assists with all tasks <br />• Cultivate cover crops <br />• Plow fields for farmers when appropriate <br />• Help train farmers in the safe and proper use of farm equipment <br />Goals /Strategies <br />• Support and encourage the next generation of sustainable farmers <br />Provide affordable land access to beginning farmers <br />Provide affordable access to farm infrastructure and basic tools to beginning <br />farmers and students of all types <br />Attachment number 3 <br />G -2 Page 184 <br />
