The NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources <br />(DENR) Division of Waste Management has recently approved guidance for composting <br />at urban farms /community gardens (UF /CG) across North Carolina. This will allow <br />OF /CGs to take in nitrogenous (food waste and manure) from off site, up to 1 cubic yard <br />per week (about l000 lbs.) to be composted for soil amendment without a permit. To <br />make sure you are not spreading human and plant pathogens, composting must be done <br />correctly! <br />Landscape Design <br />Students will learn how to identify boundaries as part of site analysis and learn how to <br />respect them as part of the landscape design process. Topics to be covered include <br />sustainable design and plant selections, landscapes, grading, and lighting. This course <br />would be great for homeowners or professionals. <br />Lawn & Turf Equipment Repair <br />In this class, students will learn to maintain and repair all types of lawn and turf <br />equipment. This includes all two and four stroke engines, zero -turn mowers, lawn <br />tractors, push mowers, weed eaters, chain saws, log splitters, generators, and compact <br />tractors. <br />Tractor & Equipment Repair <br />This course will allow the student to gain knowledge and practice on how to repair and <br />restore farm tractors, utility trailers, and lawn equipment, plus all equipment that is <br />used to maintain a small farm. Upon entering the course, the student is required to <br />obtain basic hand tools and safety glasses. <br />Attachment number 3 <br />G -2 Page 197 <br />
