In this hands -on field study, we'll cover identification, harvesting, <br />preparation, and usage of foraged food and plant medicine. We'll celebrate the arrival of <br />fall as we explore a variety of local environments. <br />Growing Organic Vegetables <br />This course will present the fundamentals of organic vegetable growing and offer hands - <br />on training in the most important skills involved. Grow, harvest, and utilize a variety of <br />vegetables organically, and learn about irrigation installation and season extension <br />structures. <br />Sustainable Cut Flower Production <br />The course looks at the business of growing and marketing quality cut flowers. This <br />course will cover such topics as site and seed selection, growing flowers that maintain <br />their quality, marketing strategies and bouquet design. <br />Soil Biology for Gardeners <br />In this course, students will be introduced to the diverse array of organisms inhabiting <br />the soil ecosystem and their differing roles in creating a healthy and fertile soil. Students <br />will learn how to promote the growth of many beneficial organisms such as nitrogen - <br />fixing bacteria, mycorrhizae, earthworms. Other topics included are strategies for <br />increasing organic matter, how compost works, and the basics of cover cropping. <br />Herbs, Microgreens and Edible Flower Production <br />This workshop will be packed with topics including: How to grow herbs for fresh cut <br />production, examples of product package and labeling, equipment used and sample <br />trays. Participants will also learn how to sow, grow, harvest and package microgreens. In <br />addition, participants will also learn about edible flower production. Also discussed - <br />farm set -up, including garden rows, greenhouses and cold frames, washing and packing <br />station, etc. <br />Tomato Grafting Workshop <br />The goal of this workshop is to learn about sustainable agricultural disease management <br />utilizing vegetable grafting, gain experience by grafting at the workshop and apply these <br />principles and practices to your vegetable production system.
