Participants will <br />learn about the growth and reproductive cycles in these plants as well as their fruiting <br />habits. Other topics that will be covered include: varieties that do well in North Carolina, <br />the low -down on trellising, ideal soils and fertility regimens, common diseases and <br />insect pests, and hands -on planting of vines on the farm. <br />Winter Gardening <br />This workshop will demonstrate how to set up raised beds, prepare soil, select and sow <br />vegetables for a winter garden. It will also focus on how to protect your garden crops <br />over the winter into the early spring. <br />Winter Garden Harvesting and Preservation Workshop <br />This workshop will demonstrate harvesting, selection of produce, and food preservation <br />techniques for saving and storing food. Class demonstrations may include preparation <br />and canning of applesauce, fruit butters and dried apples or other seasonal vegetables or <br />fruits. How to prepare and can sauerkraut will also be demonstrated. With the <br />knowledge and experience you obtain in this workshops, you will be prepared to make <br />your own special holiday gifts. <br />Winter Gardening Cooking Workshop <br />This workshop will demonstrate harvesting, selection of produce and cooking <br />techniques for using fresh organic vegetables in healthy home and gourmet recipes. <br />Also, cooking with preserved garden fruits and vegetables will be demonstrated. <br />Spring Garden Planning Workshop <br />This workshop will demonstrate how to plan and set up raised beds, prepare soil, select <br />and sow vegetables for a spring garden.
