Give the Poverty Cause name(s), rank the poverty cause(s) and identify which one(s) the <br />agency will address. <br />Assess poverty needs and conditions within the community facing low - income participants related to a) no <br />OT underemployment, b) little or no education or vocational skills and c) no or substandard housing. SRCAA <br />will provide supportive set for families or to develop skills and increased income so they <br />may rise above the income poverty level. <br />SRCAA Family Services will use the Family Development approach to partner with participants and <br />the community to: <br />• Develop /Sustain a strategy to address those needs, both immediate and longer <br />term, in the context of existing resources and opportunities in the community; <br />• Identify specific outcomes to be achieved among low - income people and the <br />community; and <br />• Organize and implement program services, and activities, such as advocacy, <br />support and guidance within the agency and among "partnering" organizations, to <br />achieve anticipated results. <br />2. Describe the poverty cause(s) in detail in the community with appropriate statistical data <br />(include data sources). Explain why the problem exists. Identify the segment of the <br />population and give the number of people experiencing the problem. Explain how the <br />persons are adversely affected. <br />The population of North Carolina is estimated to be 9,848,060 in 2013 according to the census <br />bureau. Rowan County's population estimate is 138, 019 and Cabarrus County which is more <br />densely populated is 181,468. The median income in NC is $46,450 and is lower in Rowan than <br />Cabarrus by over $11,000. Rowan County's median income is $43,121 and Cabarrus County's <br />median income is $54,280. For the purposes of this grant whose participants must be incorne <br />eligible, 16.9% of Rowan's population is below the poverty level and only 11.9% of Cabarrus is <br />under the poverty level. <br />With regard to race, 71.7 %a of North Carolinians are White, 22 % are Blacl< and 9 %o are of Hispanic <br />or Latino origin. In Rowan 80% are White, 17% are Black and 8% are of Hispanic origin. In <br />Cabarrus 78% are White, 17% are Black and 10% are of Hispanic origin. Approximately half were <br />employed, about 40% were unemployed and 90% of them are renting.
