i 174? <br />`I <br />4 <br />° <br />PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, <br />Georgia, and devoted his life to fighting poverty, injustice and racism in America; and <br />WHEREAS, Dr. King, through his practice of non - violent protest, promoted the <br />importance of love, peace and freedom for humankind and challenged America to honor <br />its promise of liberty and justice for all citizens; and <br />WHEREAS, during his lifetime, Dr. King sought to forge the common ground on <br />which individuals of all ages, races and backgrounds could join together to address <br />important community issues and provide service to their community; and <br />WHEREAS, the third Monday in January has been established as a national <br />holiday to observe the anniversary of Dr. King's birth. <br />NOW THEREFORE, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners hereby <br />proclaims Monday, January 19, 2015 as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in Cabarrus <br />County and encourages all citizens to join in the special programs and ceremonies to be <br />held on January 16 -18 honoring the life and work of Dr. King and his legacy of peace <br />and equality for all citizens. <br />Adopted this the 15 day of December, 2014 <br />Stephen M.
