Cabarrus County Public Library <br />For this project, the library will: <br />• Administer the project <br />• Provide office space for the staff (including internet, phone and copier use) <br />• Provide assistance in developing lesson plans based on staff /library patron needs <br />• Provide staff to be trained and then teach classes <br />• Hire, train, supervise and evaluate grant staff <br />For this project, the Literacy Council will: <br />• Assist in training grant staff <br />• Provide assistance in developing lesson plans based on staff /volunteer /student needs <br />• Provide volunteers <br />• Coordinate training for volunteers and students <br />• Promote all library programs and services to adult basic literacy students <br />• Encourage new readers to become library users and help them get a card <br />4. LIBRARY GOALS <br />The Cabarrus County Public Library's five -year plan has several objectives related to this project — <br />3 <br />Objective #8.4: Provide helpful, relevant digital resources that meet the needs and interests of the <br />community; provide training to staff and the public on those resources; promote those resources to the <br />public. <br />Objective #10.3: Provide digital literacy programs and services. <br />• Offer computer classes for the public following a consistent lesson plan. <br />Objective #10.5: Provide programs and services that support adult literacy through the partnership with the <br />Cabarrus Literacy Council. <br />In addition, the library's 2012 patron survey revealed that computer and technology related classes were <br />strongly desired by library patrons. <br />The State Library of NC's LSTA plan specifically addresses Literacy and Lifelong Learning as a goal — "North <br />Carolina libraries will equip users for success in life, school, and work through library programs and services that <br />support literacy and lifelong learning." This project addresses lifelong learning and digital literacy for adults who <br />want to learn more about computers and related technology. It also addresses adult basic literacy. <br />5. PROJECT GOALS / OUTCOMES <br />This project has three goals: 1) to provide library patrons and literacy students with consistent, well - planned, <br />technology related programs by developing consistent lesson plans for computer classes; 2) to provide library <br />patrons and literacy students with knowledgeable and well- trained staff and volunteers by providing training for <br />them; and 3) to provide library patrons and literacy students with technology related skills training so that they <br />can achieve their technology related personal goals. <br />By the end of the project, library patrons and literacy students will gain more knowledge and skill using <br />computers, software, databases and related technologies.
