ĂďĂƌƌƵƐŽƵŶƚLJdĂdž&ŽƌĞĐůŽƐƵƌĞWƌŽŐƌĂŵWĂŐĞϰ

our staff, County Management and the Board of Commissioners. However, we are tasked by
NC General Statute 105-352(1) to employ all lawful means to collect all taxes with which we are
charged. Therefore; as we perform these duties we take steps to assist the taxpayer as much as
we can.

If the taxpayer communicates with us early on in the process we try to work out
effective payment arrangements to clear up the bill and avoid foreclosure. As always,
there is give and take on both sides, with the result being that the taxpayer is getting
the taxes paid, we are educating the taxpayer and providing good customer service for
the County.

We work with the taxpayer to make sure that if they qualify for any of our exemption or
exclusion programs we help them through the application process.

Many times in discussions with taxpayers we offer suggestions to try to assist them.
Some of these suggestions may be; is there family that can assist you? Have you
utilized some of the services offered to assist citizens such as; Community Free Clinic,
CCM, Social Services etc.?

Once we turn the account over to the foreclosure attorney all negotiations must be handled
through the attorney. As I have stated previously the next batch of accounts that we send to
the foreclosure attorney will, by necessity, include some owner occupied properties. Please
give Debbie Farmer or myself a call if you have questions about this process.

G-1Page 187
