Economic Services <br />Key Statistics: <br />Food and Nutrition: <br />• Total number of Food and Nutrition Cases: Over 11,000 (NC FAST preventing a total and <br />accurate case count at this time <br />• Total number of Food and Nutrition applications taken (April -June 2013): 1,823 <br />Child Care Subsidy: <br />• Total number of children receiving child care assistance: 854 <br />• Number of children on waiting list for services as of June 2013: 560 <br />Work First: <br />• Total number of cases in Work First as of June 2013: 296 <br />Medicaid: <br />• Total Number of Cases as of June, 2013: 23,793 (6,366 in Adult and 17,427 in <br />Family /Children). <br />• Total Applications taken from April -June 2013: 3,913 <br />• Changes Processed from April -June 2013: 13,903 <br />• Reviews Processed from April -June 2013: 3,953 <br />Critical Trends: <br />• NC FAST continues to present challenges for the division in regards to processing cases <br />in to the new system. The division is behind on an average of 6 weeks for processing <br />cases in Food and Nutrition. The state Division of Social Services issued a letter on July <br />25, 2013 addressing some of the delays. <br />• Funding for Crisis Intervention Program, the emergency financial assistance for heating <br />and cooling, has been reduced with funds transferred to the Low Income Energy <br />1 <br />Attachment number 1 <br />J -2 Page 530 <br />
