Greetings
What an exciting year the Department experienced; a new name, a new home for the Administrative
Staff, and the most exciting change - the merger of the Department of Aging and the Parks Department! Be-
ginning July 1, 2012 the two departments merged and became the Active Living and Parks Department
(ALPS). The goal of the merger was to provide more concentrated service areas in programming and ser-
vices while the services section of the Department of Aging merged with the Department of Social Services
and the programming section merged with the Parks Department. With these changes, the ALP's Adminis-
trative Staff moved to the Concord Senior Center.
There are 10,000 folks per day turning 65 and will continue for 17 more years. The Baby Boomers are
demanding more and varied services. Pickle Ball, something most folks have never heard of, is a very popu-
lar sport in which seniors are actively engaged. It has become a NC Senior Games State sanctioned sport
and Cabarrus County offered it for the second year in 2013.
The term quality of life references the general well -being of individuals and communities. The ALP's
Staff takes pride in being able to enhance the quality of life in Cabarrus County. Parks, senior centers,
walking trails, school parks, programs, and health assessments are just a few amenities for the residents of
Cabarrus County to enjoy and enhance their quality of life.
Take Pride in YOUR facilities and come out and enjoy one today!
With Warmest Regards
erne& 0" 'o
Cabrrs
Active Living and Parks Director
C
y
i •
a r
umber 1
