Department Accomplishments <br />♦ Successful merger of the Department of Aging and Parks to form Active Living and Parks Department <br />♦ Moved all administrative staff to the Concord Senior Center <br />♦ Coordinated Senior Health and Wellness Day with 842 participants <br />♦ Developed the Park Ranger of the Month program <br />♦ Created older adult interest survey to better meet the needs of the upcoming baby boomers. <br />♦ Received PARTF Grant for Rob Wallace Park construction in Midland for $350,000. <br />♦ Received approval of expansion of the Concord Senior Center <br />♦ Received Nourishing NC Grant to offer a community garden <br />♦ Participated in special events: Employee Health and Wellness Day, Back to School Splash, Special <br />Olympics, Seniors' Christmas Party, HollyDay Follies, Senior Games, and Lunch & Learns <br />Hosted the Hunger Games Training Day in advance of the final event October 13, 3013 at the Cabarrus <br />Arena and Events Center for the 411 Community Read program <br />♦ Organized and hosted the 2 Annual Spring Break Camp: Outdoor Adventure Week increased <br />participation by 150% <br />♦ Volunteer hours at Senior Centers and Parks were 8,447 <br />♦ $3,196 raised for scholarships to enable low income older adults to participate in wellness classes <br />Staff Accomplishments <br />♦ Welcomed Scott Ludwick, full time secretary and Rose LePage, office assistant for the Concord Senior <br />Center and Makenzie Mullinax, Program Coordinator at the Mt. Pleasant Senior Center <br />♦ Years of Service Milestones: Doug Buckner, Park Ranger, 10 years, Perry Gabriel, Program Manager, 15 <br />years, and Londa Strong, ALP's Director, 30 years <br />♦ All staff attended defensive driving classes with parks and senior center staff completing certification in <br />CPR, First Aid, blood borne pathogens and AED <br />♦ Joshua Coffman and Byron Haigler became certified Hunter Education instructors <br />♦ All part time park rangers were trained on methods of teaching environmental education <br />♦ Staff taught programs at the 2012 NCRPA State Conference and the 2013 Park Ranger Institute Training <br />♦ Completed the 2n successful year of the Junior Ranger Program. Reached 1,195 students over a 6 month <br />period at 3 schools. Also hosted 388 students at numerous field trips in that same program <br />♦ Jessica Milligan completed over 120 hours of continuing education, training, and project work toward her <br />Environmental Educators Certification <br />♦ Byron Haigler received certifications as a Trail Master for Carolina Thread Trail, Wilderness First Aid, <br />and Precision Felling Chainsaw Attachment number ' <br />
