Cabarrus County Solid Waste Management Plan 2012- <br />12022 <br />Section 5 -- Waste Handling Characterization <br />This section outlines the overall waste flows in the County, from generator type to ultimate <br />disposal. For details on each community's specific programs, see Section 6. <br />5. a. Municipal Solid Waste <br />5. a. 1. Residential <br />Collection— <br />All local jurisdictions provide residential curbside collection of recyclables and refuse to single <br />family /duplex units. Residents place materials in containers and take to curb on scheduled <br />days. Contracted hauler collects refuse and recyclables at curbside, with the exception of Mount <br />Pleasant, which uses municipal crews for refuse, and a contracted hauler for recyclables. <br />Residents of unincorporated Cabarrus County may choose to either subscribe with the <br />franchised hauler licensed to the County, or can self -haul refuse and recyclables to the <br />Cabarrus County C &D Landfill Convenience Center, and also can self -haul recyclables and <br />household hazardous wastes to the County HHW Facility and Convenience Center and place <br />items into appropriate bins. <br />Multi -unit dwellers use containers contracted for by owners with private haulers or self -haul to <br />appropriate facilities. <br />Some municipalities provide yard waste collection: <br />Kannapolis provides every - other -week loose leaf collection in season, as well as weekly <br />collections of bagged materials under contract with Waste Management <br />Harrisburg provides weekly collections by municipal crews <br />Mount Pleasant provides weekly collection as well as loose leaf collection in season with <br />municipal crews. <br />Residents living in Midland and the unincorporated areas of the County are not provided yard <br />waste collection. They must either self -haul to the County C &D Landfill or apply for a burning <br />permit, if eligible. <br />Disposal— <br />Under terms of the County franchise agreement, all municipally- contracted or collected refuse is <br />taken to Republic Services' CMS Landfill in Concord. Multi -unit haulers and self - hauling <br />residents are free to take to facility of their choice; see Table 5 -1 for the destinations of waste <br />generated in Cabarrus County <br />Attachment number 2 <br />F -7 Page 140 <br />
