Cabarrus County Solid Waste Management Plan 2012- <br />2022 <br />Recycling— <br />All curbside - collected and County drop off recyclables are currently taken by contracted haulers <br />to SONOCO Recycling's Charlotte Materials Recovery Facility for processing and marketing. <br />Multi -unit private haulers and self - hauling residents are free to take to facility of their choice. <br />Composting— <br />All residentially - collected yard wastes are processed by the respective municipalities. Mount <br />Pleasant has a Type 1 processing facility, as does Cabarrus County. Harrisburg uses the <br />Greenway Waste Solutions composting facility in Harrisburg. Self - hauling residents are free to <br />take to facility of their choice. <br />Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)/Special Wastes— <br />The County's HHW Facility is open to all County residents to drop off both special wastes daily <br />and HHW on two permitted days; the first Wednesday and third Saturday each month. <br />5. a. 2. Commercial, Industrial and Institutional (CII) <br />Most CII generators use private hauler arrangements for their refuse disposal, recycling and <br />composting services. Exceptions are: <br />Town of Mount Pleasant provides municipal facilities and small businesses with <br />containers for refuse and recyclables <br />Cabarrus County provides recycling collection of mixed paper to Cabarrus County <br />Schools as well as county facilities <br />Collection— <br />Most larger C11 generators place refuse into front load dumpsters for private hauler pick <br />up. <br />➢ Some larger generators place refuse into compactors on site which are serviced by <br />private haulers (or Cabarrus County for some County facilities). <br />➢ Kannapolis City Schools use front load dumpsters for both refuse and single stream <br />recyclables collection provided by through the City of Kannapolis' contract with Waste <br />Management. <br />➢ Some larger generators place corrugated cardboard into front load dumpsters for <br />recycling. <br />➢ Most ABC - licensed facilities have 96- gallon cart service or other small containers for <br />recycling beverage containers. <br />10 <br />Attachment number 2 <br />F -7 Page 141 <br />
