Cabarrus County Solid Waste Management Plan 2012- <br />2022 <br />compactor trucks collect from each Cabarrus County school and RCCC, while Kannapolis uses <br />curbside contractor Waste Management to provide its collection in the Kannapolis City district. <br />All jurisdictions provide in -house recycling programs. The County operates an internal <br />electronics, print cartridge, and office paper collection program. The County rear - loading truck is <br />used for mixed paper collections and Republic Services provides collection of commingled <br />bottles and cans under the County's franchise agreement. Traditional recyclables such as <br />glass, plastic, and aluminum and steel cans are collected from all County offices on a weekly <br />basis, f=urthermore, the County has a departmental surplus supply online swap shop. <br />North Carolina House Bill (HB) 1518, requires establishments with Alcoholic Beverage Control <br />(ABC) permits to separate, store, and recycle all recyclable beverage containers. The County <br />has provided technical assistance in collection systems and help in finding private collectors and <br />provision of drop -off opportunities. <br />Surplus supplies not used in County operations are provided to local nonprofit agencies in <br />periodic give -away events. <br />Intended Actions: <br />Cabarrus County <br />• Improve recovery from schools by adding materials from food preparation areas <br />Reach out to local institutions and businesses to offer waste assessment services <br />Explore adding CESQG generator access to HHW facility <br />Harrisburg <br />• Improve in -house office paper recycling performance <br />6. c. 3.
