CABARRUS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />`* 1 <br />1 <br />AUGUST 20 20 <br />' <br />1 P .M. <br />AGENDA CATEGORY: <br />Recognitions and Presentations <br />SUBJECT: <br />Planning & Development (Soil & Water District) - Recognition of Student <br />Contestants in the NC Association of Soil & Water Conservation Districts <br />Annual Conservation Education Competition <br />Cabarrus Soil and Water Conservation District has co- sponsored <br />conservation education contests throughout most of it's 48 years of <br />existence. The 2012 -2013 theme was "Wetlands Are Wonderful." This <br />year, three students out of 2,501 participants in our local conservation <br />education contests advanced to regional and state -level competitions. In <br />one of our most successful years ever, three students placed either first or <br />second this year at the State level as follows: <br />. Computer Designed Slide Show Contest - 6 Grade <br />Hannah Watson, Harris Road Middle School (Jodie Hott, teacher) 1st place <br />. Poster Contest - 6 Grade <br />Gavin Rickard, Harris Road Middle School (Lara Miller, teacher)2nd place <br />. Public Speaking Contest7 Grade <br />Alli Love, C. C. Griffin Middle School (Courtney Smith, teacher)2nd place <br />REQUESTED ACTION: <br />Recognize students, their families and school personnel after introductory <br />remarks by CSWCD board and /or staff. <br />C -5 Page 53 <br />
