Project Description
Harrisburg Park is centrally located in Harrisburg, North Carolina. The Park was
built in part with funds provided by a NC PARTF grant. Currently, this park has
two athletic fields, a playground, a picnic shelter, a gazebo, restrooms, a
miniature train, walking and bike trails. Presently there are no permanent
announcing booth or concession facilities at Harrisburg Park.
This building will be a new addition to Harrisburg Park. The proposed structure
will significantly improve the appearance of the Park. In past years we have
brought in a temporary concession trailer and scaffolding to meet our needs. in
addition, the facility will provide much needed storage need Field 1.
Harrisburg Park and this facility will serve Harrisburg and surrounding Cabarrus
County. No land acquisition is involved in this project.
2. Project Planning
An announcing stand and concession stand have been on Harrisburg Youth
Association's wish list since the inception of Harrisburg Park. With Harrisburg
Park fields in use 10 months out of the year and Harrisburg July 4 Celebration
becoming a major regional event, this item has moved to the top of our wish
list.
In the Town of Harrisburg Parks & Recreation Master Plan, the following
initiative is included in planning for new and existing facilities: "Work with
community -based recreation groups to provide the facilities and services." The
Town Council and Town Administrator of Harrisburg are in full support of our
efforts as evidenced in the above statement and unanimous support for allowing
us to put this structure in Harrisburg Park.
Our proposed project enhances the recreational experience in Harrisburg Park
and is in line the Executive Summary of the livable Community Blueprint which
states: "Cabarrus County has experienced rapid growth over the last several
years... As the recreation providers have been increasingly challenged to provide
adequate facilities and programs. While numerous park development projects
have occurred in recent years, the pace of growth is exceeding the rate of park
development."
Attachment number 6
F -7 Page 161
