RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT <br />Whereas, the President of the United States signed the FY 2011 Continuing Appropriations Act which <br />authorized $526.944 million to DOT for National Infrastructure Investments, referred by DOT as TIGER <br />Discretionary Grants, and <br />Whereas, this year's TIGER Discretionary Grants are for capital investments in surface transportation <br />and are to be awarded on a competitive basis for projects that will have a significant impact on the <br />nation, a metropolitan area, or a region, and <br />Whereas, the project outlined herein will significantly impact desirable long -term outcomes for this <br />region in regard to economic competitiveness, livability, environmental sustainability and safety, and <br />will quickly create and preserve jobs, and will promote rapid increases in economic activity, and <br />Whereas, this project demonstrates strong collaboration among a broad range of participants and <br />integrates transportation with other public service efforts by enhancing connectivity via an active <br />transportation network to residential areas, businesses, schools, colleges, universities, major employers, <br />health care facilities, and regional and national visitor attractions, and <br />Whereas, alternative transportation opportunities also provide key amenities to neighborhoods, provide <br />safe areas for underserved citizens old and young to use for travel, improve the quality of the air by <br />promoting non - motorized transportation, improve the quality of water through natural buffers, <br />promote healthy lifestyles by offering a place for exercise and recreation, and develop a sense of <br />community through stronger social and family ties. <br />Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved that Cabarrus County supports the application for a TIGER III <br />Discretionary Grant to construct a transportation facility that will connect participating jurisdictions that <br />include Cabarrus County, Mecklenburg County and the cities of Charlotte, Concord, Harrisburg and <br />Kannapolis along routes associated with Carolina Thread Trail plans. <br />Adopted this the 17 day of October, 2011 <br />H.
