In addition to tourism, Cabarrus County also has experienced an increase in activity related to the film industry
recently, according to the Cabarrus Economic Development Corporation President and CEO John Cox.
Film crews have been working on "Artemis," a film based on the popular series of books called "The Hunger Games,"
at Philip Morris in Concord.
"Two large sound stages have been erected on the Philip Morris site," Cox told Cabarrus County commissioners
recently during an update on EDC activities.
"They buy land lines for telephones. They go to Five Guys for burgers. They go to Concord Mills. It's not just about
being able to say this movie was filmed here," Cox said.
Another project the growing film industry in North Carolina has brought to Cabarrus County is "Homeland," a TV
series made for Showtime, Cox said. The pilot for the show, which features actress Claire Danes was filmed in
Cabarrus County.
Contact reporter Karen Cimino Wilson: 704 - 789 -9141.
Attachment number 1
1 -1 Page 554
