PIEDMONT AREA MENTAL HEALTH, MENTAL RETARDATION, AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE <br />AUTHORITY <br />This authority plans, budgets, implements and monitors the provision of services in this <br />program area. Membership consists of four members from each of the counties of Cabarrus, <br />Union, Stanly and Rowan. The Cabarrus County Commissioners appoint one of its members <br />to serve on the Authority. That Commissioner then makes recommendations concerning the <br />appointment of the other three representatives from Cabarrus County to the Authority for <br />terms of four years. Appointees should meet one of the following criteria: a family member of <br />an individual with developmental disabilities; a family member of an individual in recovery <br />from addiction; an individual from a citizens organization composed primarily of consumers <br />or their family members; or a physician who is certified as having completed a residency in <br />psychiatry. <br />REGION F AGING ADVISORY COMMITTEE <br />This committee advises the Centralina Council of Governments (COG) staff and COG Board <br />on area plans for the aging within the nine-county region. County Commissioners appoint <br />three members and one alternate to the 26-member regional committee. The appointments <br />are for terms of two years except for the alternate appointment, which is a one-year term. <br />TOURISM AUTHORITY <br />This 9-member board is charged with the development of tourism, tourist-related events, <br />facilities and other activities that serve to increase the amount of tourism in the County. The <br />Board of Commissioners appoints membership as follows: Three members, including a <br />County Commissioner and/or County Manager; three members from recommendations <br />submitted by the Cabarrus County Tourism Authority; and three members from <br />recommendations submitted by the Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce. <br />Appointments are for terms of three years. <br />TRANSPORTATION ADVISORY BOARD <br />This board works to advance coordination between the County and human service agencies, <br />to monitor transportation services and to advise the Board on issues related to human <br />service transportation policy matters. Members include representatives from the <br />Department of Social Services, Cabarrus Health Alliance, Department of Aging, Cabarrus <br />EMS, L.I.F.E. Center, Cabarrus Workshop, Healthy Cabarrus, Head Start, Piedmont <br />Behavioral Healthcare and a representative of the visually impaired in the county. <br />February 5, 2010 <br />Attachment number 1 <br />I-2 Page 140 <br />
