As a result of this inspection Odell Fire District was identified as having areas
beyond 6 miles from the fire station. This placed a number of residents within this district in a
class 10 rating which is considered unprotected and raising their insurance premiums.
Last year the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution for the Odell Fire
Department to enter into a financing agreement to build a second station to cover the area that is
currently unprotected. This new station along with Kannapolis station 2 and station 5 will allow
the county to discontinue its contract with the Enochville Fire Department, which is a Rowan
County Department.
Our recommendation is for the Enochville fire district in Cabarrus County to be divided between
Odell and the Kannapolis Rural Fire District. This will allow county tax dollars to stay within
the county and help fund the operations of Odell Fire Department's second station. These
changes will provide a tremendous benefit to the citizens of the current Enochville Fire District.
They will receive better protection and reduced response time during an emergency. Their fire
tax rate will be cut by half and some will see a reduction in their insurance premiums, which will
be helpful during this rough economic period.
30 Corban Ave., Ste.
