HARRISBURG AREA LAND USE PLAN <br />With the help of Harrisburg and Cabarrus County staff, project planners engaged <br />officials and experts representing infrastructure and natural resources as well as <br />the HALUP Advisory Committee in informal meetings throughout the charrette. <br />The public attended a `drop -in" session the first evening of the charrette, during <br />which attendees viewed maps and drawings as works in progress and discussed <br />ideas and concerns with project planners. Important concepts communicated by <br />citizens included the scenic beauty, especially in the southern portion of the <br />planning area, the future of central Harrisburg around the new municipal <br />building, the state of flash flooding in older neighborhoods near creeks in the <br />middle of the planning area, and the extent of residential land development. <br />Illustrations to develop some of these concepts for public inspection appear in <br />Appendix B. <br />Community Meeting #2 <br />The second community meeting engaged participants with an interactive <br />exercise to evaluate alternative land use plans or develop their own version of <br />the Harrisburg Area Land Use Map. The exercise followed a presentation of <br />planning area issues and opportunities, as well as plan goals developed in earlier <br />community input avenues. <br />Internet -based Communication <br />To augment the input gathered through meetings, a Web site <br />( http : / /planninq.cabarruscounty.us /Harrisburg /default.awx was created so <br />citizens and other stakeholders could submit comments, ideas, concerns, and <br />questions in response to information posted to the Web site and the Facebook <br />page.
