� HARRISBURG AREA LAND USE PLAN <br />6.3 ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT <br />(ED -1) Attract new businesses to Harrisburg to promote a balanced tax <br />base. <br />■ Identify new employment and industrial locations in order to maintain a ten- to <br />twelve -year supply of available land with immediate access to local highways and <br />rail. <br />■ Maintain regular meetings of the Harrisburg Economic Development Committee in <br />order to promote the area and coordinate with the Cabarrus County Economic <br />Development Corporation. <br />■ Work with the Cabarrus County Economic Development Corporation and the <br />Charlotte. Regional Partnership to promote existing industrial parks within <br />Harrisburg. <br />■ Capitalize on Harrisburg's proximity to the Charlotte Motor Speedway in order to <br />continue to attract race - related industries. <br />■ Complete an analysis of Harrisburg's existing tax base and Harrisburg Area Land <br />Use Map in order to understand impacts of development. <br />(ED -2) Promote the expansion and /or retention of existing employers in <br />Harrisburg. <br />■ Maintain an adequate supply of real estate options for expanding businesses. This <br />can be achieved partially through the identification of viable office and industrial <br />park sites, in areas designated "Light Industrial" or "Mixed Use - Light Industrial/ <br />Commercial" on the Harrisburg Area Land Use Map. <br />■ Support and promote local business organizations in Harrisburg. <br />■ Work with the Cabarrus County Economic Development Corporation to aid in <br />retention and /or expansion of existing employers. <br />PART VI: RECOMMENDATIONS AND IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGIES <br />AUGUST 2010 <br />Attachment number 1 <br />G -1 Page 371 <br />
