Cabarrus County Department of Aging
' Policies & Procedures for Naming Facilities and Parks
' I. General Policies
' 1. The Cabarrus County Department of Aging Advisory Board shall be responsible for
the process of advertising, receiving and evaluating names for public facilities and
parks that fall under the jurisdiction of the Cabarrus County Department of Aging,
and will recommend the chosen name to the Cabarrus County Board of
Commissioners.
' 2. Final decisions regarding the naming of Cabarrus County Department of Aging
facilities and parks shall be made by Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners.
3. The Cabarrus County Department of Aging Advisory Board will accept
recommendations from any Cabarrus County citizen, groups of citizens or
organizations desiring to recommend a name for a facility or park in honor of a
' person or in recognition of a historical event, ecological relationship, geographic
location, organization, thing, etc. Applications or petitions to honor a person or
persons will be considered only when the individual(s) has made exceptional
contributions in the following way(s): a) monetary; b) land; or c) other goods and/or
services. (To consider naming a major new park or facility for an individual or
organization based on monetary contributions, the threshold shall be the donation
' of 50 percent or more of the developmental costs.)
4. Living individuals, including retired or retiring employees, may be considered for
' facilities or parks naming honors if the caliber and magnitude of their service and/or
contributions can be substantiated as having been exceptional.
' S. Only under extraordinary circumstances will the Cabarrus County Department of
Aging Advisory Board consider recommending naming anything within the Cabarrus
County Department of Aging system for an individual within the first twelve (12)
' months following the individual's death.
6. To be considered, names for new facilities or parks should not duplicate or be
' closely related to or pronounced similarly to any other names within the county or
municipalities' public facilities systems so as to minimize public confusion.
' 7. The Cabarrus County Department of Aging Advisory Board may conceive and
recommend names for Department of Aging facilities and parks.
' Item# 3
Attachment number 1
' F-1 Page 97 of 253
